The Past and Present
Tuesday, June 15, 2010 Good day, So I was speaking to someone that I know yesterday whom is now in one of the local post-hardcore bands and we briefly discussed the old Cape Town hardcore/punk/alternative scene. This was a time which means a lot to me personally due to my growing up and all that. I was about 18 back when which was around 2004-2005. I can tell you one thing, if you're between 15 and 19 and reading this, you're in the best time of your life... I care not what you say if you try argue against it, because despite it never seeming that great, I can assure you one day you'll look back and you'll do anything to get it back. Anyway, that's pretty much where I am right now. I miss my old friends from the scene, and I miss the scene in general, I'm trying to organize a day to hang out with the people I haven't seen in about 5 years. Granted I'm pretty close friends with most of the people whom were in the bands back then now, due to going to shows almost every weekend. But there isn't that excitement anymore... One reason for this is that the scene has died down here, and all that's left is a Christian frame, while there were some Christian bands back then too- these days it's even worse. I guess now it's time for me to go on a little rant. Basically Christianity annoys me, I was a Christian most my life- but once you reach 20 you should know better. Now I'm stuck listening to bands talking about how they want to holds God's hand as they dance in the flowers to the sounds of angels harps and shit. Okay so I lied, this post wouldn't make up for yesterdays... But I bring you a podcast on the Cape Town scene 5-10 years ago... You get to listen to some South African music for free... http://bagthemainstream.podomatic.com/player/web/2009-04-18T04_14_14-07_00 ps: I bought a Full HD 42" TV today- it's bad ass.
