When I grow up...
Tuesday, July 6, 2010 I don't know how to write this without sounding like a complete and utter idiot but I shall try any... Gangsterism is alluring... Now hear me out, I am well aware that it is a painful, violent and somewhat terrible lifestyle, filled with cracked jaw bones and weeping family members- but one can't say the idea of being untouchable is a bad one. One can look at any gang from prison gangs to street gangs and even at the Mafia, you will find that if you earn your keep you become an iconic demi-god. I'll start off with the least alluring gangs, the prison gangs. These guys don't live a luxurious lifestyle... In fact they live in a life filled with missing teeth and communal toilets. But if you're going to be in jail you have very few options, one is being raped and turned into someone's bitch every day, another is to go through the same process for one night and become a gangster. There will be initiations of course, in South Africa it involves shanking another jailmate in the neck and killing him. But these guys at the bottom are but mere slaves to the generals. Being a general in prison means you get whatever you want, if you want drugs you're given them, if you want someone killed you just say the word and it's done. You have complete and utter respect, which while happening in a complete hell hole, is better than the former option. Street gangs are slightly different in that you have more fear on the outside, a rival member could come and take you out at any time. The only alluring things here is brotherhood, power and pride. A gangster will be proud of who he is, he'll gladly show his gang tats or gang sign as he walks around his block. But he has the ability to go out at night, say whatever to whomever he wants, and knows that if he is touched the rest of the gang will kill whoever touches him. You gain complete power through fear, everybody is too scared to fuck with you. The most alluring of all gangs though, the Mafia. Here you can find the balance of respect, power, brotherhood and unlike the others luxury and wealth. The amount of respect and power gained by a Don is unfathomable, he has the ability to do what he wants when he wants to... And unlike the other gangs, he has the power to get out of legal troubles too, that's how far his connections extend. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not really into smashing peoples skulls in and dismembering them and feeding them to the pigs. I don't even support what they do, but I certainly find their lifestyles quite intriguing. Everyone wants power. PS: I bought an xbox 360 elite yesterday, and I am currently supporting the Netherlands to win the Cup, but think Germany will. I just want Ur-a-gay to lose. Labels: footy, gangsterism, xbox |
